Mr. Trump Goes to Washington, Fights for Same Principles as Jefferson Smith

“Great principles don’t get lost when they come to light. They’re right here; you just have to see them again!”

What was Jefferson Smith fighting for during his Senate filibuster ?

In the 1939 film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Jimmy Stewart as neophyte senator Jefferson Smith was fighting for a return to the principles that created the freest country on earth…the United States of America…as originally envisioned by the founding fathers. And to not have the land of free corrupted by vested interests or those who would take advantage of it for selfish gain, as he reminded the Washington elite that their government was created by the people and for the people.   Oh yes, and to ask for a little ‘common decency’ too.

President Trump has his hands full trying to clean up Washington, and has exhibited some of the same idealistic dreams that Jefferson Smith did in fighting for his boys camp in the face of graft and a corrupt press.
